April 10, 2013 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm CST
In this webinar, Dr.
Weinstock
will explore the basic tenets of Dance/Movement Therapy and how these tenets apply to work with clients with Eating Disorders. This webinar will focus on clients with severe and chronic diagnoses. Clients with these life-threatening challenges tend to have grave fears of being present in their body, moving, or being conscious of any bodily functions, and yet, this is exactly what they must do in order to fully heal and embrace recovery. The techniques discussed are the result of many years of trial and error, and much feedback from the clients who have experienced them. This webinar will discuss the working repertoire of techniques that clients have found effective for their recovery.
Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to define Dance/Movement Therapy.
2. Participants will be able to summarize the challenges inherent in facilitating conscious movement with clients with severe Eating Disorder Diagnoses.
3. DMT participants will be able to implement at least 3 verbal, cognitive, and movement techniques to DMT sessions with clients with Eating Disorders and/or body dysmorphia; other therapists participating will be able to implement at least 3 verbal and cognitive techniques for discussing conscious embodiment with their clients faced with these issues.
